Message from the Chair - September 2011

Hello All,

First, I welcome you to the DESD Division within the ANS. Before I begin, I want to express my thanks to Larry Zull for the excellent work he did as the chair last year and his dedication to the Division.

I want to welcome the newly elected officers and members of executive committee,

Nadia Glucksberg - Vice Chair/Chair Elect; David W. Hillyer - Secretary/Treasurer; and Executive Committee members James Clarke, Douglas Davis, and Alastair MacDonald; and also welcome back the current Executive and Standing Committee members.

During the upcoming Winter Meeting in Washington DC of October 30th through November 4th, 2011, DESD plans to have four sessions, along with a tour of the NSS Savannah. We hope to see you there. We are also pleased to announce that DESD will also have its next topical meeting in 2012 embedded in the ANS 2012 Annual Meeting to be held in Chicago from June 24th through the 28th. Sue Aggarwal is the Technical Program Chair and Jim Byrne is the Assistant Technical Program Chair. Your help is needed so stimulate papers, perform technical reviews, and chair sessions. Please pitch in and help Sue and Jim makes this our best topical meeting ever.

On another note, as discussed in our last meeting that was held on June 26th, we are forming a task force to determine pros/cons of merging our division with Environmental Sciences Division (ESD). For this task force, we will supply three people. Larry Boing, Jim Byrne, and Nadia Glucksberg have graciously volunteered.

If you are reading this on our website, you know where it is. However, if you received this by another means, please visit our DESD website at http://ddrd.ans.org/ .

Finally, I look forward to working with you all and if you have any suggestions or ideas as to how we can improve our division please don't hesitate to contact me at
